Costinha e o King Mong

Costinha e o King Mong is a 1977 Brazilian comedy film that features a gigantic ape running around Rio de Janeiro. The film stars Brazilian comedian Costinha
Costinha made his screen debut in the 1940s, and starred in a whole stack of comedies. By the 1960s he was also on television. He headlined several films that were pop culture parodies, making him sort of a minor Dolphy. His later comedy films were more of the adult comedy nature, featuring lots of naked chicks. That makes Costinha e o King Mong different, because it is relatively family friendly.

King Mong is a sequel to Costinha’s prior 1976 film, Costinha o Rei da Selva (Costinha, King of the Jungle), where he plays a Tarzan-ish character who is captured by leopard men that demand he marry their queen or be sacrificed to King Mong. I think we all know how that turns out, and suddenly King Mong is running around Rio de Janeiro and even climbs the Christ the Redeemer statue. I am unaware of any current way to see Costinha e o King Mong.

Costinha films that sound interesting not featuring naked women (as far as I know):
007 1/2 no Carnaval (007 1/2 at Carnaval) – 1966. Directed and written by Victor Lima, also starring Larry Carr, Costinha, Annik Malvil, Marivalda, and Rossana Ghessa.
Costinha o Rei da Selva (Costinha, King of the Jungle) – 1976. Directed by Alcino Diniz, written by Alcino Diniz and Roberto Silveira, and also starring Júlio César and Betty Saady
Costinha e o King Mong (Costinha and King Mong) – 1977.
O Homem de Seis Milhões de Cruzeiros Contra as Panteras (The Six Million Dollar Man cruises against Panthers) – 1978. Directed and written by Luiz Antônio Piá, also starring Nidia de Paula, Adele Fátima, Sandra Castro, Carvalhinho, and Floro Rodrigues

He also appeared on the Planeta dos Homens (Planet of the Humans) tv series, which was a Planet of the Apes-based sketch comedy show. More info here.

Here is a poster for Jaws 19 as it appeared in the background somewhere in Back to the Future Part II. The original artwork was auctioned off along with many other pieces of memorabilia in December 2011.

Hamilton’s Invaders

Hamilton’s Invaders were a toy series in the 1960s where blue army men fought giant bugs with movable parts. They were inspired by the 1950s giant insect movies, which by that point had begun their long foray into reruns on tv. In addition to the giant bugs, you could also get a Hamilton’s Invaders helmet and grenade gun to wear while you play, for total immersion or something.

The main giant bug was Horrible Hamilton – a large green bug with legs that moved when it rolled. There were additional bugs – Spooky Spider and Gruesome/Brutal Beetle – along with smaller nameless bugs. The blue army men (called Blue Defenders) were meant to represent the United Nations, because only the combined might of the world’s armies could defeat Horrible Hamilton and his bug crew!

Why are we talking about Hamilton’s Invaders? Because the helmet wore by the Golden Skeleton gang in Golden Skeleton is the Hamilton’s Invaders helmet with a gold skull glued on top of it! B-movie inspired, B-movie used.

2 Headed Shark Attack poster and stills!

2 Headed Shark Attack has moved closer to completion with a poster and some official stills. The gemi-shark is ready to chomp it’s way through dozens of teenage tasty treats. And hopefully Brooke Hogan, Charlie O’Connell, and Carmen Electra as well. Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray directs.

The plot:

When a Semester at Sea ship is sunk by a mutated two-headed shark, the survivors escape to a deserted atoll. But when it starts flooding, the coeds are no longer safe from the double jaws of the monster.

Gwangong vs Alien – 關公大戰外星人 – is a short film that looks awesome and features a giant robot, an alien, and Guan Yu. Who you might remember fought aliens before. And now we got a 30 second trailer, and it looks ridiculous and awesome. Ridiculously awesome. It better be! Or heads will roll… Alien heads…

There is not much in English about G.V.A. yet (yes, that abbreviation is used by the director), but if you can read Chinese, here you go.

2 Headed Shark Attack Gemi-Shark pic!

Asylum has released a photo of the two-headed shark (dubbed the Gemi-Shark) from their upcoming 2 Headed Shark Attack film on their Facebook page. Gaze into both faces of sea terror! Which head will be the evil head? Find out when the movie airs, I guess. I predict both heads will be evil.

American Godzilla film to be written by David Goyer

Legendary films has hired David Goyer to write the new Godzilla film based on a draft from David Callaham. Goyer cowrote the recent Batman films, but also wrote the Unborn, so this could go any direction. Monsters director Gareth Edwards is still attached.

King Kong returns again once more

King Kong is back again, this time in animated form (again), in a new film which will be done from the point of view of King Kong. I don’t know if this is the evolution of the long-rumored King of Skull Island project. The story is based on Mike Weber’s story (he’s producing) and is coming out of the Fox Animation studio.
