New Battle Beasts review
So I snagged on of the new Minimates Battle Beasts. This is similar to the single announce Gator beast, except they have been making alternate colors to give away at various toy shows and cons this year. The first was a month or so ago and I couldn’t find it for anywhere near reasonable on eBay, but there was a second alternate color gator released this past month at some place called E2X2 or C2E2 or R2D2 or something. In any event, I snagged on off of eBay for a mere $25 including shipping, so that was a good score. It is the first chance for me to get a handle on the new Battle Beast, so here are some pics:The alternate color Gator came complete with a crappy gun. His color scheme is the best one so far, so props for the color scheme!

My Beast came with a special bonus: a hair from a paintbrush!

The gator can barely hold the crappy gun, and when he does it is crooked. Boo to that! The previous premium gator had a sword.

Size-wise, you can see how the new Beasts are slightly taller than the old ones (please forgive the fact the Battle Beast shown is a bootleg, that was the only other one I had bought recently)

And more size comparisons with some Gormiti figures.

Overall, I am less than impressed by the hair and the crappy gun, but the color scheme of this one was the best so far. I am still not excited about the new line, and will continue to look at it with trepidation. There is one more alternate color of the gator going to get released, but besides that, there are currently no announced plans for the line.

Battle Beasts toy review
TW2005 has posted a video review of That New Toy Smell that reviews the new Battle Beast toy from Minimates (created by Art Asylum and Diamond Select Toys), an alternate paint job having been given out at the recent toy show. It alieves a few of my criticisms that the toys might be too lego-ish and not Battle Beasts enough, but he also harps on the main concern I also have, the lack of the rub badges. Although cheesy, they helped define the Battle Beast toy line and the lack of rubs/symbols/orbs is a real let down. And that sword sucks! I will probably pick up a few of the toys to see how they are, but the review did make me more likely to pick up more of them than before. Though, currently, Gormiti seems more like the spiritual successor to Battle Beasts at the moment.
As a giant Battle Beasts nut, I will be keeping an eye on this line!

Mexican Bootleg Battle Beasts
Here are a bunch of Mexican Bootleg Battle Beasts that got posted recently on ebay. I won one of the auctions, but in the interest of cataloging all the bootlegs out there, I am posting all the pics for archival purposes. The bootlegs were castes as one unmovable piece (so the arms don’t move) and done in hard plastic (like army soldier toys) At this time, I think it is still unknown just how many Battle Beasts were bootlegged in Mexico. I am adding this to the Battle Beasts section on TarsTarkas.NET.#2 Deer Stalker

#5 Killer Carp

#10 Roamin’ Buffalo

#44 Eager Beaver (This is the auction I won, so I am the proud owner of this guy!)

#4 Colonel Bird

#32 Humongous Hippo

#13 Gargantuan Gorilla

#1 Pirate Lion

#6 Triple Threat Snake

#41 Run Amuck Duck

#15 Gruesome Gator

#14 Swiney Boar

Battle Beasts are back??
As some of you know, I love Battle Beasts ever since I was a boy. The toyline gets almost no love and nobody remembers them. And now, they will probably be back. At the Comicon, the company that makes the Kubricks toys revealed they got the license and even put up a prototype of a gator! So I guess Battle Beasts will be back, even if it is in a weird form. Well, we did have Gormiti, which are like the spiritual successor of Battle Beasts.
