Mega Shark vs Gigantosaurus
Asylum’s followup to Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus will be Mega Shark vs Gigantosaurus. I am not sure how that will work, as Gigantosaurus is a land-dwelling dinosaur that is a sauropod (think Brontosaurus) but the poster art is basically a giant T-Rex. So we got a T-Rex fighting a giant shark, who in the last film was taking a bite out of airplanes. Okay. Let’s hope for the best! Maybe they’ll have more actual monster stuff in this one! Horror-Movies.ca noticed the poster art in a CNN video and Avery emailed everyone in the universe.

Death Kappa
Death Kappa will be dropping on Region 1 DVD and Blu-Ray on May 25th with a dubbed version for those of you who hate to read. May 25th is coming up quicker than you realize. Take a break and watch a movie where a giant kappa (a Japanese demon) smashes up some other giant monster. Death Kappa is the brainchild of Japanese FX man Tomoo Haraguchi. The kappa, in Japanese folklore, are water goblins that are closely associated with a certain town in the country. Unfortunately, the area is also home to a militant splinter group of researchers dedicated to developing amphibious super soldiers based on the kappa of legends. When their experiments result in murders by some escapees, the appearance of an actual kappa, and the triggering of an atomic bomb, the consequences are of epic proportions. A monster arrives in the midst of the nuclear fallout, and Japan’s defenses are helpless against it. Mankind’s only savior is an irradiated water goblin that is on the rampage with death in its eyes.

ANAK NG BULKAN and other wonderful Filipino films
ANAK NG BULKAN is a Filipino film involving a giant bird that was known only by several posters to the folks who hunt down giant monster movies. But as luck would have it, one day a poster at Kaijuphile stumbled upon a blog that had pictures of the actual Anak Ng Bulkan film (from 1959), which showed that A- The film survived, B- The film is available in some format, and C- There is a giant bird in the film. All of that rules. What also rules is poking around on the blog are all sorts of photos from other fantastic Filipino films. Some of which I wasn’t sure if they existed, some I knew existed but had never seen actual photos of. Sadly, too many of them are just posters and magazine photos (although many of the magazine photos are new to me) and the films are still lost. A shame. In any event, here are some of the pictures and the relevant links, and you should probably poke around yourself if you are into that sort of thing (I know a few of you are!)DARNA AT ANG BABAING TUOD (1965)
SI DARNA AT ANG IMPAKTA (1963)
GEMMA, ANG BABAING KIDLAT (1976)
Other good sources for Filipino cinema include Video48 and The Search for Weng Weng. Video48 is where some of the posters are pilfered from.

Crazy giant monster tourist videos for Hakodate, Japan
The Japanese city of Hakodate has created some crazy tourism videos involving giant monsters, alien invaders, robots, and all the stuff that make nerds go nerdgasm. So get your N-face on and watch these commercials! We got alien squid invaders from ikaaru who are upset over the Hakodates squid consumption. They hijack local landmark and giant mechanical squid Ikabo (Hakodate’s tourism mascot) and set it loose to destroy the city. Luckily, the city has two robotic defenders, a building called the Goryokaku Tower that turns into a robot and a giant clay figure called a Chuku Dogu that also is secretly a robot. A giant clay robot. And another historic building called the Goryokaku Fortress joins the fight in the form of a giant spaceship with a drill on it. See all six parts of the commercials below:

Just imagine the US version of this, with DC being invaded and giant Abe Lincolns and Washington Monument robots fighting it out…

Raptor Ranch
Jurassic Park meets Carnosaur meets Brokeback Mountain without any brokebacking. Actually, it is Raptor Island on a ranch. Raptor Ranch! And without seeing one frame of footage I can assure you it is better than Raptor Island and Raptor Island 2 – Raptor Planet. In fact, it looks like it could be pretty fun. Potential is here. Like Raptor Planet, they will use a mix of animaltronic and cgi raptors, except they added color to them, so they don’t look lame. Basically, if it is fun, it will be a good movie. Rumors are it might show up on SciFi Channel sometime this spring.

The film is the brainchild of Dan Bishop, an experience production designer on many projects.
Starring Jana, stand-up comic Rowdy Arroyo, Cody Vaughn, Donny Boaz, and Bo Myers
Animaltronic work of Larry Billings:

CGI work of Michael Napodano:

Thanks to Avery, who I hope avoids any attacking raptors!

G
G.
Yes, G.
That’s the new movie by special effects man. He did effects work on some recent films, and then raised some money of his own and made his own movie! Now that means the acting won’t be the best, but the special effects will rock and roll! We’ve got a big damn monster:
And a giant robot:

And lots of things blowing the crap up!
Clips are available on the Undead Backbrain website
An update on this film will be on the SciFi Japan website…eventually. Will the effects guy be Kiyotaka Taguchi, who worked on Godzilla films and is rumored to be on another project? We shall see…
Thanks to Avery for yet another scoop!
