Movie News Droppings…
Thanks to the commute time of work eating up two hours a day (that’s ten hours a week!) for at least the next few months, movie news is going to suffer. Thus, out from that comes larger news bites posts instead of individual posts for every bit of news that comes along. We shall still be selecting news via the patented TarsTarkas.NET selection method: whatever the heck we want to until we get bored or distracted. So let’s bring on the movie news!
Hot Tub Time Machine looks like it will be awesome. The trailer embedded below is the safe for work trailer, but you should probably also check out the NSFW trailer somewhere.
Big Money Rustlas is not just a juggalo movie, it’s a prequel to a juggalo movie! It will be absolutely awful. Kill your children if you like this film.
What fighting video game franchises are left that don’t have terrible movies made of them yet? Tekken gets scratched off the list, making me hope the Primal Rage movie will be out by the end of the decade. Isn’t there supposed to be a giant bear in Tekken?
Speaking of crappy fighting video game movies, Mortal Kombat will get another film. This is where I would make a joke about someone needing to put a fatality on this film franchise if that joke wasn’t way too obvious.
Hong Kong is coming out with four (!) competing films about Guan Yu. We have the Benny Chan directed Louis Koo vehicle Legend of Military God, Yang Zi’s Military Saint Yun Chang, Liu Heng’s Guan Gong, and Guan Yun Chang, which may star Donnie Yen if he accepts. Wait until 2011 when Hong Kong will produce 12 biopics of Yan Wang just because they can.
Finally, for all you monster fans, SyFy (sigh…) is having a contest to Name That SyFy Movie! Obviously this movie about Demons in the Holy Land needs to be named Sasquatch vs. Crocodile.

SciFi Channel upcoming crap
Before SciFi Channel becomes SyFy, they must make us watch garbage. And after they become SyFy, they STILL must make us watch garbage!Sand Serpents sounds like someone liked Dune a little too much and decided to turn that into a SciFi Channel creature feature. So they did. Directed by Jeff Renfroe and starring Jason Gedrick, we have US soldiers chasing the Taliban, who find out they are now the ones being chased by the Sand Serpents! Watch it July 11th.
Hellhounds is directed by Silver Spoons himself, Rick Schroder. It involves hounds that are in Hell, because some dude in ancient Greece has wandered into there to go get his girlfriend. I guess he brings other people with him, otherwise the Hellhounds won’t have any doggy snacks. Will Cerberus show up? Find out July 19th.
Malibu Shark Attack is next on July 25, it used to be Goblin Shark Attack and is about a Goblin Shark that attacks. In Malibu. Peta Wilson will defend people from goblin sharks that are released after an earthquake opens an underground lake. Chelan Simmons also costars, she has fought giant bugs, ogres, chupacabras, and snakehead fish before on SciFi Channel, so freaky sharks should be no biggie.
Infestation will premiere August 8th. The official site has stuff for you to check out.
Fast and Ferocious shows up August 11th. No one knows anything about this film yet, so it is probably something else renamed. Hopefully it involves Vin Diesel racing cars against mutant cheetahs.
High Plains Invader then arrives August 30th. It used to be called Alien Western and stars James Marsters vs a bunch of giant bugs in the old west.
SciFi Channel will also be showing a bunch of stuff from The Asylum, with Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus airing August 29th, Transmorphers 2: Fall of Man airing August 1st, and The Terminators airing August 15th.
Plot info on the new Phantom Miniseries
Some production info and plot synopsis on the new SciFi Channel miniseries for the Phantom has emerged:Phantom, a four-hour, action-packed, dramatic mini-series, began principal photography this past April in Montreal. This updated and urban reimagining of the 1936 Lee Falk classic comic strip character includes second unit filming in New York City and Costa Rica and stars Ryan Carnes (Desperate Housewives), Sandrine Holt (24), Cameron Goodman (Mad Men) and Isabella Rossellini (Alias). A co-production with SCI FI Channel in the U.S, Phantom will debut on Movie Central and The Movie Network in spring 2010.
Sandrine Holt is pretty hot so that is one casting choice I can get behind.
Produced by Muse Entertainment, Phantom is a modern-day re-invention of the popular adventure comic strip The Phantom, created by Lee Falk in 1936. A law student is shocked to learn that he was adopted and is actually the son of The Phantom, a caped crime fighter. He joins the Phantom team in the jungles of Bengalla to train in martial arts and combat, and emerges as the next Phantom. The series’ creative team includes executive producer Michael Prupas, producer Irene Litinsky and screenwriters Charles Knauf and Dan Knauf.
No news on if the Phantom will be spanking anyone, but he probably will.

Fire From Below – Kevin Sorbo on SciFi Channel!
Fire From Below is a films set to premier on SciFi Channel in September 2009 (I think it will be SyFy by then, but frak that stupid name) and it stars Kevin Sorbo vs some fire
Digging at a nearby cave, a careless industrialist unearths a vein of pure base Lithium and inadvertently brings it to the surface, where the Lithium combusts when coming into contact with water and begins to wreak havoc on the country side.
It’s written by William Langlois and Jim Wynorski and directed by JR Mandish, but not much more about it is out yet. We should have a double feature with Fire Down Below and Fire From Below! Seagal and Sorbo!

The Phantom miniseries from SciFi Channel (SyFy)
The Phantom (seen here and here in Turkish form) is getting a miniseries on SciFi Channel. All we know at this time is it will be produced by entertainment company RHI, who is also producing Riverworld and Alice3 in Wonderland miniseries for SciFi Channel (I am sure that Alice in Wonderland miniseries isn’t meant to cash in on Burton’s version…) No word on on the Phantom series will show the Phantom’s love for spanking!
